The Beardslee Homestead is host to classic American summer camps that feature educational and fun activities for kids including blacksmithing, knife forging, woodworking, metal-detecting, beekeeping and honey production, archery, target practice, orienteering, fishing, hiking, swimming, kayaking, river tubing, astronomy, organic agriculture, sustainability, animal husbandry, gardening, fire-pit cooking, and so much more. Camps are limited to 10-20 kids each session who live in the converted cow barn dormitory underneath the astronomical observatory, and have access to the entire property, including the library with more than 1,000 volumes about American history, Western civilization, science and astronomy, agriculture, and more. On hand in the library are also an antique map collection and copies of The Dangerous Book for Boys and The Dangerous Book for Girls, the Hillsdale College American Heritage Reader, Frederick Hayek's The Fatal Conceit, and more. The Beardslee Summer Camp is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience real farm life of the past that is, at the same time, connected to the future. Two weeks at the hands-on Beardslee Summer Camp provides real-life experience, professional formation and skills, and just plain and innocent fun and even spiritual growth in a safe environment rarely found. Occasionally distinguished leaders stop by the farm to say hello to the kids and offer life-changing inspiring stories and lessons of leadership and American values.
