The 1785 Tavern

The 1785 Tavern is the oldest portion of the Homestead.  Matthew Bennet built the tavern sometime in the 1780s, perhaps prior. The Tavern was the subject of a Cornell University Dendrochronological Study which dated the trees sued in the construction to the 1620s and 1640s.  The tavern features original wood paneling, original ceiling beams, an ethanol fuel fireplace, a staircase to the second floor bedroom which at one time was likely either the tavern keeper's room or a guest room, a second guest room, private bathroom, full kitchen, and laundry facilities.  Overnight guests may rent the entire tavern for $500 per night.  This rate includes access to the entire property, too.
